2015.01.30 – Dangerous situation in the Mediterranean

Very intense weather, especially precipitation, is being observed (as forecast) in the Mediterranean, mainly in the western Balkan states. Locally, over 82l/m² in 12 hours or 116 l/m² in 24 hours were regsitered. But also storm gusts are a significant problem. Below is the current Meteoalarm warning map

Due to the low pressure area, which will intensify by tomorrow and re-locate to central Europe, the risk of extreme weather, including excessive rainfall and storm gusts will increase in the Mediterranean. Especially in the western Mediterranean region around Sardinia, there will probably even be local thunderstorms. In thunderstorms that occur in the afternoon and evening, especially in the northern parts of the western Mediterranean, there can be especially strong gusts.
